WEST CHESTER, Ohio, Oct. 24, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- ESCORT Inc (http://www.escortinc.com/) today announced the introduction of ESCORT Live™, the ultimate real-time ticket protection network.  ESCORT Live™ is the social network for the road where drivers share live alerts with other drivers so everyone in the network can drive smarter.

ESCORT Live™, now available directly from ESCORT, uses Bluetooth technology embedded in SmartCord Live™ cords and a unique app for the driver's smartphone. When alerts are detected, they are transmitted to the ESCORT Live™ "cloud" and then broadcast across the ESCORT Live™ network, notifying drivers of potential ticket threats.  In addition to these live alerts, ESCORT's industry leading Defender® database of fixed position cameras and speed traps is also provided.

Multiply this data gathering and sharing process by millions of miles and driving hours and the result is a nation of protected ESCORT Live™ drivers.  

Here's how it works: Imagine departing for the morning commute.  Your neighbor's ESCORT radar detector encounters a laser gun; that alert information is relayed immediately to the ESCORT Live™ network as a confirmed "laser detected" threat.  Later, as you head in the same direction, even when you are miles away from the waiting laser gun, your smartphone equipped with the ESCORT Live™ app displays a red "laser spotted" alert before you are in range.  

ESCORT Live™ alerts are displayed with band, signal strength and frequency.  Events spotted previously in the network are indicated by an "approaching live alert" message with directional location arrow and distance-to-arrive to the alert source.

Alerts appear at their coordinate location and are marked with an intuitive "heat map" decaying icon that changes color and transparency based on alert relevance.

The ESCORT Live app provides the latest available information on speed cameras, speed traps and speed limit data.  Important driving data is displayed for compass heading, vehicle speed and over-speed alerts.  Users are automatically updated with the latest detector software to optimize performance and eliminate false alerts.  The app features map and dashboard views with multiple alert settings based on user preference.

Intel Serious About Car Security

Intel labs is working on a full car security platform that can tap into the car’s built-in cameras and use them to send you live video of the area around your car.

The video can be sent from the vehicle’s parking assist cameras to your smartphone with only a 5 second delay. And its compressed enough to work easily over 3G. So you can periodically check in on your car by tapping on a smartphone to view near-live video.

In the case of a theft, you would be sent video up-to-and-around the time of the break in.

It’s just one of the features that Intel Labs is cooking up for a ‘redefining platform’ it hopes to see in new cars.

We spoke to Victor Lortz, a lead researcher on the project. He explained another nifty feature of Intel’s platform.
The car’s dash screen could display a barcode to let you know there’s a new smartphone app available for your car. You scan the code and the app appears on your phone. You are now linked into the car’s electronics system in a secure fashion, without having to download an app from a typical app store.

The feature would give the car companies a seamless and secure way to deliver apps.

“The bar code is something we stumbled upon on in a way. When we were building our demo, we realized we had this whole question of how do you get the app in the phone,” Lortz said, noting that not every driver wants to go through a multi-step process to download an app.

The system could also perform tasks including remote start and locking and unlocking doors.
Intel Labs works with Intel’s commercial departments. The Lab’s job is to create the basic architecture and then it’s up to Intel to develop it.

But Lortz believes we will see his technology in new cars.

“It’s fair to say that Intel is serious about this,” he said. “Once cars get connected there’s a lot of issues around security so that’s another area we’re trying to address.”

Intel aims to create a super secure platform so that car makers and car owners don’t need to worry about hackers—a threat that’s already making headlines.

2011 Toyota Sienna Recall

Toyota is recalling approximately 94,000 2011 Model Year Sienna vehicles produced before early November 2010. No other vehicles are affected by this recall.

Due to the proximity of the stop lamp (brake light) switch bracket to the parking brake pedal when the parking brake is fully applied, the bracket could, in limited circumstances, be deformed by the driver’s foot during parking brake operation.

Depending on the amount of bracket deformation, this condition could cause the brake lights to remain on. If the deformation is significant, the brakes could become partially engaged due to contact from the bracket, resulting in brake drag with associated brake noise, brake vibration, and/or illumination of the brake warning light.  If this condition is not noticed and the vehicle continues to be driven, braking effectiveness could be reduced.

Toyota fait actuellement un rappel d approximativement 94,000 Sienna 2011 produites debut Novembre 2010.  Aucun autre vehicule ne fait parti de ce rappel.

Due a la proximite de l interrupteur de lumiere de frein et de la braquette de frein d urgence, lorsque cette derniere est enfoncee pleinement elle pourrait (selon certaines circonstances) deformer et par consequent causer les lumieres de freins a rester allumees en permanence.  Si la deformation de cette braquette est significative, elle pourrait meme causer les freins a etre partiellement engages, a causer une vibration, illumination possible de la lumiere de frein dans le panneau d instrumentation et meme une possible degradation de la performance du freinage.

My first blog / Mon premier blog

Hi all !  I am very proud to post my very first 12 Volt blog.  These posts will be my personal opinions and thoughts about what makes our 12Volt world go round ! Also this is the first English/French 12volt blog !!!
